Boris Johnson discusses easing of restrictions
The Prime Minister has said the Government is aiming to lift coronavirus restrictions by April or sooner providing the Tier system works to bring the virus under control. A total of 44 million people will now be in Tier 4, or 78 percent of the population of England from December 31. ITV’s Robert Peston asked him: “The burden on people in Tier 4 is huge. They want to know how long they’re going to be living under these conditions?”
Mr Johnson said: “That will depend on how fast we can get the virus under control with tough tiering, with testing and with rolling out the vaccination programme.
“I’m not going to give you a deadline but you’ve heard what I’ve said about April.
“If and it’s a big if, if the tiering can work to bring the virus under control, if the vaccine roll-out proceeds fast enough and we are able to protect the most vulnerable groups then there is a world where that date can be brought forward.
“Who knows by how many weeks but that’s obviously what we’re aiming for.”
