France: Mayor shares concerns over vaccine rollout
Véronique Trillet-Lenoir, from Emmanuel Macron’s En Marche party, claimed some individual states in the European Union “could not even think of a vaccine” for coronavirus had they not been able to rely on the European Commission. BBC host Nick Robinson asked her: “Isn’t the fact that your citizens are owed an explanation and the explanation is that the European Commission has messed this whole process up? They’ve been slow to approve and the European regulator to approve and the commission has been slow to order them.”
Speaking to BBC Radio 4’s Today programme, Ms Trillet-Lenoir said: “The European Commission has followed rules in a very serious and secure way.
“The decision was made to negotiate in the name of 27 states because many European states could not even think of a vaccine if they could not rely on the EU Commission.
“In my opinion, the choice is good.
“It is safe, it is secure but of course, it is happening in an echo-system which is very competitive where the rules should be followed.”
