Liz Truss’s letter to Kwasi Kwarteng after he was ousted as Chancellor bears his name at the bottom, in a major apparent gaffe from the Prime Minster. The letter, issued just before she began a press conference in which she fielded questions about the decision, thanks him for his service.
However, bizarrely, the name under the signature reads: “The Right Honourable Kwasi Kwarteng MP.”
Additionally, Ms Truss says she “respects” his decision – despite widespread reports that she actually fired him herself, with Mr Kwarteng’s letter to her suggesting she had asked him to “stand aside”.
Ms Truss wrote: “We share the same vision for our country and the same firm conviction to go for growth.
“You have been Chancellor in extraordinarily challenging times in the face of severe global headwinds.”
