Liz Truss has promised to tackle the cost of energy and cut bills for hard-working Britain with the new Prime Minister promising action in a bold speech out Number 10 on Tuesday. But discussing the contents of the speech, Ms Rigby pointed out the plans to negotiate new contracts with energy companies would likely take over a year to finalise.
Ms Rigby told Sky News: “What we are going to get is a combination of an immediate package to help with bills over the winter, and then a longer term plan about how to secure energy supply.
“That will be changing some of the market contracts with suppliers to try and cut bills, but that won’t happen until a year, 18 months out.
“It will be about securing more renewables, but it will also be about oil and gas licences using oil and gas in the short term to secure energy supplies, economy transitions to renewables.”
