Data for 2019/20 seen by the Daily Express shows that 1,643 civil servants took 37,911 days off in excess of seven days without providing a doctors’ note.
The following year 1,688 took 27,428 days off while in 2021/22 there were 2,428 people taking 29,744 days off in excess of seven days.
The TaxPayers’ Alliance, which unearthed the figures following a freedom of information request, said it is time for Whitehall to “get a grip” on staff absences.
