President Biden’s top medical advisor has pledged the US Government will deliver on a promise to vaccinate 70 percent of Americans against coronavirus by July 4. Dr Fauci has described the goal as “ambitious” but expressed confidence the US vaccination programme would be able to deliver. He explained how a change in tactics with a pivot away from mass vaccination and toward walk-in jabs would help the vaccine be administered faster.
Dr Fauci told the NBC Today network: “It is an ambitious goal but I do believe we are going to reach that goal.
“When you get a smaller cohort of people to be vaccinated because remember we already have a substantial proportion of the population vaccinated.
“When that cohort gets smaller it gets more difficult to get people on a daily basis.
“That’s the reason why the strategy has changed a bit in supposed to the mass vaccination centres it is going to be more walk-in type.

“Where you can walk into any of a number of the tens of thousands of pharmacies that are going to have the vaccine.
“Readily available for someone who walks in no appointment.
“Making it as easy as possible to get vaccinated.”
He added: “In that context, I think we are going to get there.”

It comes as the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported 249,566,820 vaccines had been administered so far in the US.
The latest data also shows that 44.7 percent of Americans have received at least one dose of a coronavirus vaccine.
Meanwhile, 32.3 percent have been fully vaccinated.
Despite the high numbers of people vaccinated Dr Fauci has stated that US health authorities have changed their goals from herd immunity to controlling the virus through vaccination.

He told the US media on Tuesday: “People were getting confused and thinking you’re never going to get the infections down until you reach this mystical level of herd immunity, whatever that number is.
“That’s why we stopped using herd immunity in the classic sense.
“I’m saying: Forget that for a second.
“You vaccinate enough people, the infections are going to go down.”
