Commonwealth Bank, Westpac and ANZ were among some of the main lenders who suffered an internet outage. Virgin Australia also reported a severe outage on Thursday as it remains unclear what caused the outage in the country. Not only has the internet outage devastated online websites but has also reduced access to online apps across the country.

Banking corporation Westpac revealed it is suffering a “major telecommunications outage”.

They said: “We’re aware some of our customers have experienced problems accessing our services.

“We apologise for any inconvenience and appreciate your patience as we work through resolving the issue.”

Commonwealth Bank also revealed it was suffering outages across its network.

“We’re aware some of you are experiencing difficulties accessing our services and we’re urgently investigating.

“We apologise and thanks for your patience, we’ll provide an update soon.”
