Britons are set for a sunshine-soaked Bank Holiday weekend as damp May weather gives way to sunshine and clear skies. Most parts of the UK have already begun to enjoy the warmer weather with Thursday set for highs of 20 degrees and no rainfall for most. BBC Weatherman Matt Taylor told BBC Breakfast that the temperature spike is set to continue into Saturday and Sunday with conditions set to improve still further, reaching highs of 22/23 degrees.

The weatherman reported: “It feels like a while since I have been able to say this but on Thursday most parts of the country will be dry.

“It has been one of those months hasn’t it,” he remarked.

“Not just dry it should feel a little bit warmer.”

Thursday and Friday are set for temperature highs ranging from 19 to 20 degrees as we move towards the Bank Holiday.

Mr Taylor added: “The temperatures will be on the rise further as we go into the weekend.

“And there will be more sunshine developing.

“We will start Saturday fairly cloudy especially in the west, one or two light drizzly showers.

“Isolated showers further east, most to be dry and increasing amounts of sunshine throughout eastern areas.”

The meteorologist continued: “By this stage, a few more spots are getting to 20 degrees.

“Parts of southern England and westerns and Northern Scotland best favoured for that.

“Into Sunday though after some morning mist and fog patches bluer skies for most.

“It will be a sunny day.”

“A little bit of fair weather cloud and some hazy sunshine out towards the north and the west.

“But by this stage could be hitting 22 degrees in parts of Scotland.

“Maybe up to 22 or 23 in the southeast of England.”

However, the weather presented looked to discourage people tempted to go for a bracing swim in the sea, saying: “A recent chillings spell has had an impact on water surface temperatures, be brave.”
