Blokes haunting final words before dying after smashing food challenge

A bloke who smashed an eating challenge posted on Facebook saying "I'll sleep now" after devouring the feast – and died just days later.

Conor Flanagan, from Galway, Ireland, completed Scotty's famous burger and wings 5×5 challenge in just 22.5 minutes and was the first successful challenger of 2023.

Days later, on May 16, he tragically died, with the business writing on Facebook: "Scotty's would like to extend our deepest condolences to the family of Conor Flanagan who passed away last Tuesday, May 16th.

"Conor connected with us deeply in the brief time that we knew him. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends and the communities of Ennistymon and Lisdoonvarna at this time."

On a post from Scotty's celebrating his eating feat, Conor revealed that his challenge consisted of five half-pounder burgers with five slices of cheese, five strips of bacon along with a pound of chips and a half pound of coleslaw.

He had written: "I'll tell ye this Folks. 5 halfpounder burgers, 5 slices of cheese, 5 stripes of bacon on a toasted bun with Mayo. 1 pound of chips and a pound of coleslaw.

"All to be eaten in 30 minutes. It is some feast to be honest. Scotty's is a Great place to eat and the Staff are an extention of Scotty and Jenny. Lovely, welcoming and so hospitable."

There is no suggestion that his death has anything to do with the eating challenge, with his cause of death not yet public knowledge.
