Body found after teenage boy gets ‘into difficulty’ in reservoir

A body has been found in a stretch of water where a teenage boy was seen in difficulty, police have confirmed.

South Yorkshire Police confimed they were called at around 3pm after a teenage boy got into difficulty in the water at the Ulley Reservoir near Rotherham.

The boy's family have been informed and are being supported by officers, police have said.

Divers were seen in the area after emergency services rushed to the scene on Friday afternoon, YorkshireLive reports.

After a search of the area, police have now tragically confirmed that the underwater search team recovered a body from the reservoir.

Several fire engines were seen by the reservoir, while the entrance to Reservoir Road was also cordoned off by police.

A South Yorkshire Police spokesperson said: "We are sorry to share that the underwater search team has found a body in Ulley Reservoir.

"No formal identification has yet taken place. The boy’s parents have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers."

A huge search and rescue operation had been launched after the boy was seen in difficulty in the reservoir.

An earlier statement from the force had said: "South Yorkshire Police said: "Emergency services currently have multiple resources on scene at Ulley Reservoir, Rotherham.

"At 3pm, police were called to concerns that a teenage boy had got in to difficulty in the water. Multiple agencies responded, and specialist search teams are now doing everything they can to find him."
