Police have found five members of the same family dead at their home on Christmas Day.
The horrific discovery at around 5.14pm was made in the city of Atkins, Arkansas.
The potential crime scene was quickly sealed off and at least three more police cars were dispatched to the site.
“Tragedy has struck Pope County on this Christmas Day,” a grim-faced sheriff’s office spokesman said a press conference. “Upon arrival, we did notice that there was potentially five victims within this residence. We believe them to be all family members at this time.”
The spokesman added that investigations were still ongoing at the present time and said he was currently unable to provide any more details.
It has not yet been disclosed who made the initial call to police, or what relationship they might have to the family members who have died.
A joint operation between Pope County Sheriff's Office and the Arkansas State Police has been launched to investigate the shocking incident.
Caitrin Assaf, a reporter with local TV station KARK, confirmed that Pope County Sheriffs deputies and Atkins Police officers had converged on the scene and the driveway to the home has been taped off.
At least four police cruisers were parked with their lights flashing, she wrote.
Cops have not revealed the ages of the suspected victims, or said how they may be related.
No suspects were immediately named in the incident.
