The country recently entered into its third phase of coronavirus lockdown, and Mexican residents who have relocated to other countries will likely face similar conditions.
How to celebrate Cinco de Mayo in lockdown
Cinco de Mayo celebrates the Mexican Army’s victory over the French at the Battle of Puebla on May 5, 1862.
The victory of the smaller force marked an unlikely victory for Mexico, and the country has celebrated every year since 1863.
Mexico marks the day with official events such as military parades, while the US, notably California, is one of its most fervent observers.

Food and drink
American data company Nielsen found people have turned to stock up on tequila ahead of Cinco de Mayo this year.
Sales of distilled liquor have increased by more than 30 percent in April compared to last year in the US, they found, with a 54 percent spike in tequila specifically.
People who aren’t partial to the bitter spirit may turn to food, and they can make themselves a traditional Mexican dish.
One of the most consumed dishes on Cinco de Mayo is the Mole Poblano, usually a meat of choice covered in a complex brown sauce.
The dish is particularly popular in the city of Puebla, where the famous battle took place.
Other than Mole, people may enjoy a feast of Chalupas, Chiles en Nogada or Mexican rice pudding.
Drink-wise, those who don’t enjoy tequila can indulge in Paloma or a margarita.
