The dad of a man accused of killing an elderly victim says he should receive the death penalty if he's guilty.

Charles Covey, 44, is accused of killing Roy Lee Nelson, 65, in Missoula, Montana.

Nelson was pushed from his wheelchair and now Covey faces charges of deliberate homicide, Missoulian reports.

Court records show that police allege that Covey, aka Jesse Nitcy, was the one who pushed Nelson.

Witnesses heard “a hollow metal pipe being violently struck against something”, documents claim.

Another person reports finding "a massive head wound with pieces of brain and blood" at the scene.

Covey's dad, 62-year-old Michael, said that he's "100 percent for" the death penalty.

“I don’t want this monster pampered," he said. "What he did is unforgivable. I definitely wanna do my part to make sure it doesn’t happen again."

The suspect faces life in prison if he is convicted, but it's unclear whether or not he could be executed.

Deputy County Attorney Brian Lowney told the paper that it is unlikely that it is constitutional to seek the death penalty in Montana.

The court heard this week that Covey has an "extremely violent history".

He is scheduled to return to face the court again on December 7.
