The Deep Creek fire, burning in Summit County along the Grand County line, grew overnight to about 50 acres.
The fire, initially referred to as the Spring Creek fire, broke out Wednesday afternoon south of Kremmling along Colorado 9, according to fire officials.
The Grand County Sheriff’s Office ordered mandatory evacuations Wednesday afternoon for residents living near the fire, but those orders have been changed to “pre-evacuation” status, according Grand County officials.
There are about a dozen vacation homes west of the Blue River, however, that have been evacuated, according to Summit County Fire and EMS.
Multiple fire departments, including federal and local firefighters, are fighting the blaze. Plans for Thursday include air drops, three planes were called in on Wednesday, along with hand crews on the ground.
The fire has been burning through heavy timber. It also torched mowed hay meadows near the Spring Creek Ranch north of the Green Mountain Reservoir. Firefighters monitored the fire overnight. There have been no structures damaged and no injuries reported.
