DJ runs off the stage after blasting herself in the face with a confetti cannon

A DJ ran off stage during her show in Brazil after she accidentally blasted herself in the face with a confetti cannon.

Flavia Ribeiro, known as DJ Flavinha, suffered first-degree burns and cuts to her face during the incident at her show in Santa Catarina, Brazil, on January 21.

A clip of the blunder has since gone viral on social media, gaining millions of views as it captured the moment she pointed the cannon into the air – hoping to make silver confetti fall over her fans – seemingly clueless to the fact it was the wrong way around.

But it literally backfired and the confetti was blasted into her face, sending her running to the back of the stage as the stunned crowd watched on.

However, she quickly returned to continue her set for around 20 minutes before eventually giving in and rushing to the hospital when she 'couldn't take any more pain.'

Following her embarrassing performance, the artist addressed the incident in a video to her 33,000 followers on Instagram, where she was seen with a bandaged neck and several cuts on her face.

In the clip, she said: "My video is rolling everywhere. There was an accident. I ran behind the sound equipment and kept playing even with a lot of blood dripping, with a lot of pain.

"I threw my hair forward and I stayed there. People on my team wanted to take me out, and I didn't want to leave."

She has confirmed she is recovering from her injuries.

Ribiero's confetti cannon is believed to be the same model that has been previously been featured in warnings from Santa Catarina Fire Department, Globo reports.

The devices are reportedly available at common festive goods stores in Brazil as long as they don't contain gunpowder as they are usual gas-powered.

However, authorities say the cannons are lacking 'a specific standardisation'.
