Jadan Horyn told Express.co.uk that Donald Trump could mirror Obama’s approach and criticise his successor in the future. Mr Horyn added that the former US President has created a parallel moral equivalency in US politics by openly criticising his replacement.

Mr Horyn said: “What Obama has done has given the left what they wanted which was someone to take down Trump, but it has not given the country anything good.

“All it has given the country is open licence for any former President from now on including future ex-President Donald Trump, to do the same thing to his successor.

“That is not good because in future Donald Trump can simply point to someone else.

“This is the problem I have with Barack Obama specifically, he has demonstrated time and again that when it is politically expedient he will breaks norms.

The US political commentator added: “If you are going to call out the President for shattering norms, you better not be shattering norms.

“All he has done is created a parallel moral equivalency.”

Mr Horyn added that former presidents of the United States have historically opted not to wade back into the political landscape.

He stated Obama’s criticism of the President Trump – who is seeking a second term in the White House – shows the “central irony” of the Democrat Party, who have often slammed the Republicans for breaking US political precedent.

Mr Horyn said: “This is the central irony of everything that is going on right now.

“Yet, his response is to do the exact same thing.

“Barack Obama’s criticism of Donald Trump is unprecedented, it shatters every norm and that is a terrible thing for our country.
