Elon Musk has sent his millions of followers into a frenzy by suggesting that the classic children's story of Little Red Riding Hood would make more sense if the tale’s heroine had been consuming hallucinogenic drugs.
The French fairy tale, first written down by Charles Perrault in the 1600s, but also retold by the Brothers Grimm in the 19th century, involves a young girl whose sick grandmother has been eaten by a wolf, who then dresses up in her clothes and waits in her bed in order to fool the arriving child into thinking he is her nan.
Whichever version of the story you read, the lass either gets gobbled up by the wide-eyed wolf, or a woodcutter saves the day by bursting in at just the right moment and slashing open the carnivorous beast.
No matter the ending, what business magnate Musk is curious about is how the girl could possibly mistake a member of the lupine family for her friendly old granny, with his shaggy hair, sharp teeth, pointed ears and many other animal facets.
And thus, the 50-year-old SpaceX boss suggests the only possible explanation is that the youngster must have taken some mind-altering substances in order to believe a wild animal was her babushka.
Musk tweeted: “Seems odd that anyone would mistake a talking wolf for their grandmother. What sort of octave range does that wolf have anyway!?
“If Little Red Riding Hood was on psychedelics, this whole story makes a ton of sense.”
The comment received around 8,000 likes and more than 1,000 replies on Twitter, with one of his followers commenting: “I think there were some magic mushrooms near her grandmothers.”

A more measured responder said: “Psychedelics would certainly help, but I would not point to the drugs as the only causation for her behaviour.
“There would have to be at the very least dual to multiple diagnoses. In which the drugs were only just scratching the surface of her issues.”
A third user quipped: "Taking psychedelics would make Red Riding Hood 'woke'. One more fairy tale for the Conservatives to ban”, while another added: “No psychedelics. Zero drugs or alcohol. Just lithium and a weird imagination is all.”
