Concerns are mounting that Vladimir Putin could be planning to detonate a nuclear weapon over the Black Sea.
UK Defence Secretary Ben Wallace is currently in Washington for crisis talks with his US counterparts amid fears that Putin is readying a chilling show of force.
Armed Forces Minister James Heappey confirmed that Mr Wallace had travelled across the Atlantic for "the sort of conversations that [are] beyond belief really, the fact we are at a time when these sorts of conversations are necessary".

According to a senior journalist at the Kyiv Post Putin was "prepping an announcement tomorrow (October 19)".
It is understood that Putin is looking to respond to continued heavy Russian losses in his war with Ukraine and, last month, he warned that he would use nuclear weapons to defend his country's "territorial integrity".
In anticipation of potential acts of retaliation, it has also been reported by the IStories media outlet that housing chiefs in Moscow have been told to check bomb shelters are in good nick.
US President Joe Biden is taking the tyrant's threats seriously, arguing that the world is closer to Armageddon than at any period in recent history since the 1962 Cuban Missile Crisis.

"When you look at the number of missiles fired over the last few months, we are thinking here that this is an issue. Russia’s ability to continue with this saturating barrage of precision weapons is getting to a point now where this will be unsustainable."
A source has also claimed that the Russian army is now short on officers, saying: "In the face of failure, there is a preference to scapegoat and sack individuals rather than rectify systemic faults. There is likely a critical lack of command continuity. This is more damaging than in Western military."
Liz Truss, meanwhile, has been holding talks with France's President Emmanuel Macron with No 10 stating: "They discussed their deep concern at Russia’s recent barbaric attacks on civilian areas in Ukraine.
"They agreed the UK and France will continue to work closely together with allies to support Ukraine and co-ordinate our response to Russian aggression."
