Free and cheap things to do in Denver, March 2021

Aw, shucks!

For more than 20 years, March has meant one thing at Jax Fish House & Oyster Bar: Oyster Month. The month-long “shell-ebration” is filled with giveaways, specials and more — all to honor the sustainable and delicious mollusk. Never tried an oyster before? Newbies get their first-ever oyster on the house — fried, grilled or raw. (Plus, “oyster virgins” get a complimentary commemorative koozie.) In addition, for every five half-dozen Emersum oysters you order in March, get a half-dozen for free. Simply grab a punch card at any location to get started. The restaurant is also serving up a Shucker’s Dozen all month: order 12 oysters and get 13. Finally, on National Oyster on the Half Shell Day (March 31), chow down on $2 Emersum oysters all evening. Check out the restaurant’s site for more oyster-centric specials. jaxfishhouse.com/oyster-month

Paper trail

During tax season, we have to sort through all of those receipts and financial documents. Once you’re done, it’s wise to safely dispose of those you longer need. Office Depot/Office Max is helping purge the paper, clear the clutter and protect your privacy with free paper shredding at all of its locations. Through March 6, shred up to 3 pounds of paper at no cost. Print the coupon at officedepot.com/cm/print-and-copy/shredding. Limit one coupon per household or business. There are 10 locations in the Denver metro area. officedepot.com

Wedding planners

While many weddings were postponed in 2020, many couples are still hoping to plan their dream wedding in 2021. The Colorado Bridal Show can inspire lots of ideas and help planners connect with various vendors. There are five shows scheduled this winter: March 7, 14, 21, 28 and April 11. Wild time

It’s been quite some time, but you can once again monkey around with the family at the Denver Zoo for free in 2021. On select Share the Love Days, the zoo is giving back to the community with complimentary admission. However, the system is much different than before. Tickets are not available at the gate, but through an online giveaway. The next free day is April 8, with the coinciding ticket lottery available for entry from March 29 to 31. You can register for up to five tickets (limit one entry per person, per free day). At the end of the lottery period, winners will be randomly selected and notified. If you’re chosen, use your vouchers to reserve timed tickets for April 8. All visitors must have a timed ticket for entry, including children 2 and under. Currently, the zoo is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The attraction is expected to announce more Share The Love Days for the remainder of the year. denverzoo.org/free-days
