Harry and William’s ‘sparse’ conversation over Diana statue ‘didn’t end well’

Prince Harry and Prince William had a "sparse" conversation about Princess Diana’s 60th birthday statue over WhatsApp, a source reportedly told US Weekly.

The two brothers have not seen each other since the Duke of Sussex left the UK for Canada with wife Meghan Markle and then-newborn Archie Mountbatten-Windsor in December 2019.

Their relationship is thought to be in dismay after Harry and Meghan sat down with U.S. chat show host Oprah Winfrey to discuss their time within their Firm and what led up to Megxit.

Both Meghan and Harry made several startling revelations, including that a senior Royal asked about Archie’s skin tone prior to his birth and that Prince William and Prince Charles are "trapped" within their roles.

A source told Us Weekly Prince Harry and William have spoken since the interview, claiming the pair agreed via WhatsApp and email about their mother’s 60th birthday statue.

The statue will be released on July 1, which would have been the late Princess Diana’s 60th birthday, and will be placed in the sunken gardens in Buckingham Palace, a favourite of Diana’s when she was alive.

Gayle King previously said the brothers had spoken following the interview, claiming it had been "not productive," a statement US Weekly’s source also confirmed.

The source said Harry and William’s conversation "didn’t end well" but have since "agreed over the statue".

Communication between the two brothers was "sparse" however, and was done entirely over "email and WhatsApp," it has been claimed.

A source told Us Weekly: "The conversation Harry and William had after the big interview didn’t end well.

"And yes, they agreed over the statue, but communication between them was sparse and over email and WhatsApp."

Despite the brothers’ apparent rift, Prince Harry and Prince William are expected to come together for the reveal, marking the first time the Duke of Sussex has returned to the UK.

Speaking when the statue was first announced, a source close to the Palace said: "Prince William and Prince Harry have dreamed of doing this for a long time.

"They were both just boys when their mother passed away, but are both now fully grown men and want to honour her in the best way possible.

"It has taken 20 years for this to finally come to fruition so they are determined it will be a lasting and fitting legacy in what is their official London residence and a place special to them both."

The Daily Star has approached Prince Harry and Prince William's representatives for comment.
