A tranquil waterfall became overtaken by boozy Brits treating the area "like Ibiza" with boombox tunes and topless antics.

Thomason Foss, near Goathland in the North York Moors, is an area famed for being a filming location for ITV’s Heartbeat.

The picturesque waterfall there, located roughly 10 minutes from Beck Hole, was inundated with youngsters hoping to escape the heatwave in recent days – and it is not the first time.

During lockdown youths were spotted raving at the waterfall – discarded knickers, nappies, bottles, and human faeces were found by disgusted locals.

There were reports of young people "tombstoning", jumping off the waterfall into the water below – and it appears the location has seen danger antics once again this weekend.

One man, visiting on Sunday, told the Daily Star: “This is usually a really tranquil spot, but this weekend it was more like Ibiza.

“It was totally wild, like a party zone. There were big groups of topless teens chugging booze and being a bit rowdy.

“It was a boiling hot day and they had house music blaring out from a boombox.

“There was litter everywhere too. I saw bottles of Cactus Jacks and packets of chorizo chicken at the top of the waterfall. It was really upsetting to see the place left like this.

“Most worrying of all, a young girl climbed right to the top of the ravine before diving into the waterfall. It must have been about 50ft high.

“We saw her spin through the air like a corkscrew as her mates screamed. Thankfully she managed to hit the water below, but it was truly death-defying.

“As we were leaving, there were more and more people descending. They were dressed for a night out, not for a hike, with strappy tops, diamante sandals and a crate of Bud. It was just laughable.”

Emergency services have previously issued warnings over people jumping into the waters.

In 2020 a man was airlifted to hospital with spinal injuries after tombstoning.

North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service, the Scarborough and Ryedale Mountain Rescue Team, North Yorkshire Police, the Yorkshire Ambulance Service, and the Yorkshire Air Ambulance were called to assist in the rescue operation.

At the time a spokesperson for the mountain rescue team said: "Thomason Foss, a steep-sided valley, is particularly difficult to extract a casualty from and in light of the suspected injuries we requested the assistance of the Maritime and Coastguard Agency helicopter from Humberside Airport."
