Hero 10-year-old dies after diving into river to save drowning little sister

A hero big brother tragically died when he was swept away by a river after saving his younger sister from drowning on Saturday.

Ricky Lee Sneve, 10, was playing near the Big Sioux River in Hudson, South Carolina, when a couple of his siblings fell into the water.

Dad and young Ricky immediately jumped to action and got into the river.

Ricky was able to push his younger sister Chevelle to the safety of the shoreline.

But afterwards Ricky was nowhere to be found.

Speaking to the Sioux Falls Argus Leader, heart-broken mother Nicole Eufers said: "A couple of the siblings fell in the water. Dad jumped in for two of them, and Ricky jumped in to save his sister Chevelle.

"He saved his sisters’ life and took his own."

Lincoln County Sheriff's Office announced a large-scale search mission for Ricky at 7pm on Saturday.

Just three hours later the courageous young man's body was reportedly found by the search party.

Chad, Ricky's father, has described his son as smart, dedicated, and the type of boy to do anything for anyone.

The devastated dad added: "He was my everything, and he touched everyone he encountered."

Mother Nicole said that her son had taught her "how to love and appreciate life".

Ricky was the oldest child of four siblings and one step siblings.

He had a passion for fishing and loved to help his family cook and clean around the house.

A GoFundMe page has been created to help the family pay for Ricky's funeral expenses.

"He taught me how to love and appreciate life. He never failed to amaze me."

Ricky was the oldest of four siblings and one step sibling, and loved to fish and help his family cook and clean around the house.

A GoFundMe page has been set up to help Ricky's family pay for his funeral expenses.

The page has currently accumulated over $24,000.

Thousands of local residents and people all over the world have been sending messages of love and support for Ricky and his family.
