A police cordon has been set up after "human remains" were reportedly found close to a pub near Manchester.

Danny and Felicity Duffy made the grisly discovery near Egerton Park in Bolton, Greater Manchester, at around 12.20am on Monday morning.

The couple immediately dialled 999 and called the police following the horrifying find.

Danny told Manchester Evening News the pair are "shaken up" by the discovery and were unable to sleep after police released them from the scene at around 3.30am.

He said: "I've not slept. I can't get it out of my mind. I've never come across anything like that before.

"We both felt sad. Felicity has been quite upset. We've both only slept for about an hour. As soon as I woke up I thought it was a bad dream."

Tests and forensic analysis are currently being carried out to work out the circumstances of the incident, Greater Manchester Police said.

It isn't believed that this is linked to any ongoing investigations, they added.
