It’s time to cast your vote on whether Britain’s best pets are dogs or cats

Calling all dog lovers! Sign up to TeamDogs for your weekly dose of dog news, pictures and stories.

It is hard to think of anything more divisive than asking the nation if it prefers dogs or cats but the Daily Star is here to do just that.

Never mind whether you store your ketchup in the fridge or cupboard or if you put jam on top or beneath cream on a scone.

Surely the matter of Britain's favourite pet is the ultimate debate and one we are determined to get to the bottom of – with your help of course.

Whatever the breed, let’s settle this biggie once and for all. It’s time to show which side your claws are on and decide if you’re a dog person or a cat person by taking the survey below.

Because you just can’t be both. Right?

Just ask Claire Horton, the former CEO of Battersea Dogs and Cats home.

She stunned listeners on BBC Radio 4’s Desert Island Discs when she revealed where her heart is.
