Knifeman on the run as person stabbed in airport departure lounge attack

One person has been injured during a knife attack at Dusseldorf Airport in Germany, it has been reported.

A spokeswoman for the federal police said that the alleged perpetrator was on the run and is being hunted by the federal and state police.

The stabbing is said to have taken place outside the airport buildings and police said they were seeking a homeless man over the incident.

A spokesman for Dusseldorf Police said: "The incident involves a homeless person in the parking area."

Surveillance footage showed two men walking toward an airport parking lot at 12.16 pm local time (11:16 GMT), at which point the attack happened, a spokeswoman for the federal police said.

The victim of the stabbing was taken to hospital. The motive for the attack remains unclear.

Dusseldorf International Airport is the third largest in Germany after Frankfurt and Munich, and handled almost 25.5 million passengers in 2019.
