Loyal dog becomes millionaire overnight after being left fortune in owner’s will

A dog-lover left his pampered border collie $5m (£3.6m) in his will.

Travelling businessman Bill Dorris always felt guilty about not spending time with Lulu while being called to locations across the US.

So he left his beloved eight-year-old pooch in the capable hands of a good friend.

Now Mr Dorris has passed on, Martha Burton is continuing to look after the pampered pet.

And to pay for that, there is that $5m pot awaiting in a trust fund, once the will is all sorted out.

News Channel 5 reports Lulu lives in a modest home in Nashville, Tennessee with Martha.

They said Lulu loves to play watchdog outside of the home, but the truth is she can afford to hire her own security.

Lulu works the front door not because she has to, but because she wants to.

"Yes, she's a good girl," Martha, 88, told the news channel.

Martha explained the situation with Bill to the station saying: "Well, he always left the dog for me to take care of."

Then, late last year the 84-year-old Dorris, an unmarried, successful businessman, died.

His will named Lulu and left her enough money to pay for more kibble than any dog could possibly imagine the station reports.

Piers for PM? Have your say!

The Daily Star has projected an image of Piers Morgan onto the Houses of Parliament – and we’re asking you are we ready for #PMFORPM?

Last week the Daily Star jokingly asked the question on nobody’s lips: Would PM be a better PM than our current PM?

And it seems we may have inadvertently unleashed a monster. Shy and retiring Piers – no stranger to holding our politicians to account on Good Morning Britain – leapt on the idea.

His odds were slashed from 500/1 to just 20/1 in a single day.

So, are you Team Piers or Team Bozo? Take part in our survey!

"Oh yes. He loved that dog," said Martha.

The will reads: "$5 million will be transferred to a trust to be formed upon my death for the care of my border collie Lulu."

Martha was stunned and told the channel: "I don't really know what to think about it, to tell you the truth. He loved the dog."

The will specifies: "This trust is to provide for all the needs of Lulu. The dog will remain in possession of Martha Burton."

Dorris had vast real estate holdings and investments, it is claimed.

News Channel 5 said there are no plans to buy a solid gold dog bowl or diamond-encrusted collar.

The will states Martha will simply be reimbursed for reasonable monthly expenses.

She knows there's no way they could ever spend $5 million, but, as Martha joked: "Well, I'd like to try."
