Man charged with first-degree murder in Denver for stabbing at motel.

A man has been charged with first-degree murder for a domestic violence stabbing at a Denver motel.

Israel Casarez, 49, is charged with the death of 54-year-old Dina Casias, according to the Denver District Attorney’s Office.

At about 11:05 p.m. Jan. 21 officers responded to the Western Hills Motel, 5035 W. Colfax Ave., after several 911 calls about a man armed with a knife who was breaking windows, according to an arrest affidavit. Callers reported hearing people screaming.

Officers found a room with a broken window and a mattress placed up against the inside of the broken window. Officers pushed the mattress down to see inside the room, which had blood on the walls and furniture pushed up against the entry door, the affidavit said.

Officers entered the room and found Casias, who had been stabbed multiple times, unresponsive, the affidavit said. She died at the scene. Casarez was found standing behind a door in the room holding a large knife and was taken into custody.

The affidavit describes Casarez as the victim’s boyfriend. Police had described the incident as a domestic violence case. Casarez was advised Friday morning of the charge against him.
