A man who allegedly fired on Jefferson County sheriff’s deputies is dead after police returned fire near Conifer. An investigation is underway and some area roads are closed.
No deputies were injured when the man fired a shotgun at them, according to a tweet from the sheriff’s office.
There is no threat to the public, the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office said in a 1:44 p.m. tweet.
The incident happened in the area of Callae and Piano Meadows drives, the sheriff’s office said. A short stretch of each of those roads is closed during the investigation.
Deputies were called to the area southwest of U.S. 285 and Green Valley on a welfare check and encountered the armed man, the sheriff’s office said. More than one deputy fired and those deputies have been placed on administrative leave, per office policy, pending an ongoing investigation by the First Judicial District Law Enforcement Critical Incident Response Team.
