Man who bought home where cannibal used to live had to clean up human remains

A man who bought a house that once belonged to a cannibal, spoke out about his experience after lasting just five months in the property.

Alex Deehl bought the former home of Mark Latunski, who was convicted of killing and eating a college student from Swartz Creek in Michigan, USA, for just over $100k (£82k) back in February 2020, just two months after the horrifying incident took place there.

Deehl said when he moved in, the rooms of the house still had traces of when Latunski killed Kevin Bacon on Christmas Eve 2019, and added that there were even human remains he had to clean up.

"Three sets of dishes with human remains on them," Deehl recalled.

"And all three sets are in the dishwasher. And the dishwasher never, never had electricity to it. It was brand new. It still had the plastic in front of it."

After Deehl decided the property wasn't for him, Latunski's family took back the home in July 2020.

"I never sold the home back. Mark bought his crime scene back. He bought it back," Deehl said.

"I bought the object, not the subject.

"Simple real estate transaction. Houses don’t kill people."

Deehl was advised by his lawyer not to share pictures of the inside of his home, which he described as still looking like a "crime scene".

Latunski was handed a life sentence on Thursday (December 15).

He had met his 25-year-old victim on Grindr before killing him, mutilating him and eating parts of his body.

Latunskiwas initially found incompetent to stand trial, but pleaded guilty to his crimes in September, before the trial began.

Family members reported Bacon missing on Christmas 2019 after he did not show up for breakfast.

"In your sick, twisted mind you probably don’t think you did anything wrong," his mother Hannah wrote. "This Christmas I hope you suffer like we have."
