An urgent manhunt is under way for an armed killer who shot dead a new dad and rookie police officer on his first day on the job.
Dylan Harrison was destined to a tragic fate, following his murder on his first day on the job, resulting in a frightening “blue alert” being issued in the Southern American state of Georgia.
The distressing alert signals to the population that there is an ongoing search for a suspect who has allegedly killed or injured a police officer, and has not yet been apprehended for their alleged crime.
The 26-year-old police officer leaves behind a wife and a six-month-old baby, after being brutally shot and killed while working his first shift at the Alamo police station.
Working as a part-time officer, Dylan was involved in the catastrophic altercation, which happened around 1 a.m. outside his police station.
According to the Officer Down Memorial Page – a website tracking USA's law enforcement deaths – he is the fifth Georgia officer “killed in the line of duty this year”.
Dylan was reportedly working in law enforcement since 2018, as well as being a full-time employed officer with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI), within its drug task force.
Natalie Ammons, a spokeswoman for the GBI did not reveal further details as to what were the causes leading to the fatal shooting, however, a suspect was named, with a reward issued to help the police catch him.
As a matter of fact, the GBI has offered a $17,500 reward for any information that could help find and arrest the criminal, a 43-year-old man named Damian Ferguson, who has been said to also go by “Luke Ferguson”.
During the GBI’s press conference, Natalie Ammons said: “Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Ferguson or with any information you think may be pertinent to this investigation should contact us.”
As a result of the investigation being “very active”, according to the spokesperson, details regarding the actual crime had to be left out of the official conference. However, Dylan’s body has reportedly been taken to the GBI’s crime lab for an autopsy.
Authorities have said that the alleged killer has been identified as a “5 feet 10 black man” weighing “about 215 pounds” with “brown eyes and short black hair”.
