Meghan and Harry ‘bought £11m mansion’ from Russian ‘Scarface’ billionaire

It's been revealed Meghan Markle and Prince Harry couple bought their new home from a notorious Russian oligarch who previously owned what's known as the "Scarface estate".

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have truly settled into their new Californian lives, purchasing their very own £11m mansion.

After relocating to Los Angeles when the pandemic began – the same time they stepped down as royals – the Sussexes lived in actor Tyler Perry's £13m mansion for several months.

But public records show they now have their own house, just 95 miles up the Californian coast.

Meghan and Harry's new home is outside of LA, located in nearby Montecito, Santa Barbara.

It's a secure gated community populated by celebrities such as Brad Pitt, Oprah Winfrey and John Cleese.

They bought the nine-bedroom property from an LLC partly owned by Russian tycoon Sergey Grishin.

The 54-year-old billionaire, who has confessed to stealing millions from banks in Estonia and Russia, once owned the iconic mansion which appeared in the gangster film Scarface.

But he sold that property for a third of its original asking price in 2015.

Grishin bought the enormous 14,563-square-foot mansion that now belongs to Meghan and Harry in 2009.

Known as "The Chateau", it had previously been listed for £20.6m but Grishin failed to find a buyer.

He relisted it in January for £13m and has sold it to the Sussexes for £2m less than that. The deal was closed in an "off-market" sale in June, the LA Times reports.

Meghan and Harry have reportedly taken out a £7.25m mortgage on their new home, and tax records match the LLCs previously created by the Duchess.

Photos from a previous listing for the property appear to show a stripper pole installed in the gym, and it's unclear if that feature has been removed.

It features a huge pool, wine cellar, movie theatre and tennis court.

The grounds also include several outbuildings including a children's cottage, a tea house, and a two-bedroom guest house that would be ideal for Meghan's mum Doria when she visits from neighbouring LA.
