Newcastle crowned as the UKs Favourite Place

The UK's favourite place has been announced – and it's Newcastle.

It's officially the best place in the UK after thousands had their say in our sister recommendations site 2Chill's Favourite Place competition, with nearly 2,000 voting for the north east city.

Climbing its way to the top, Newcastle beat lots of towns, cities, counties and even countries to be named the most-loved place in the UK.

But after claiming the leaderboard's top position, we wanted to find out what makes the city so special.

And it's not just the locals that are raving about their home, visitors love it too.

Lots of people shared why they thought it should win, with many agreeing it was because of what it offers to everyone .

There's the wild expanse of the town moor, one of the country’s most famous bridges, Michelin star restaurants, a street dubbed the most beautiful in Britain and a football stadium right in the centre.

Expressing his pride in the city, Jason Deveaux said: “It's an honour and a privilege to work in this amazing city.”

Angela Monaghan added: “There is not any other city like ours it’s just fantastic.”

Meanwhile, Tracy Williamson recalled the feeling of warmth you get when you return from a spell away.
