The 80-year-old man killed during a physical altercation in Denver Saturday has been identified as George Black, according to the Denver coroner.
Stephanie Martinez, 36, was charged with first-degree murder in connection with Black’s death after witnesses said she attacked the man Saturday afternoon near the Colorado State Capitol, at the intersection of East Colfax Avenue and Grant Street.
One witness said she punched Black several times, causing him to fall and hit his head, and then continued to attack him until the witness stepped in to stop the assault. Black was taken to a hospital and died at 2:20 p.m.
A motive for the attack was not clear. The Denver Office of the Medical Examiner will determine Black’s official cause and manner of death.
