A police officer was wounded in a shooting after a gunman targeting an MS-13 member opened fire on her house, foreign media reports.

Nathaly Gomez Iglesias, from New York in the US, was rushed to hospital after the attacker started shooting around 2.30am on June 1 as she was eating dinner.

They sprayed the house with 30 bullets, one of which grazed the 23-year-old’s head.

Nathaly, who joined the New York Police Department in 2019 and lives with her mum and sister, was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

Police believe the attacker was after her sister’s boyfriend, thought to be a member of the MS-13 gang, The New York Daily News reported.

Terrified neighbours were woken by the gunshots as the bullets pierced the officer’s home.

Iris Hernandez, 44, said: “At the beginning I did think they were shots, but there were so many that then I thought they were maybe fireworks.

“So that's what happened — we stayed there, really thinking they were fireworks.

“Only when I went to the bathroom I realised that all the police were here. It's worrisome.”

Nathaly refused to comment when approached by the New York Post.

Suffolk County Police confirmed in a statement: “Shots were fired into a home on Morton Street at approximately 2.30am.

“Multiple people were inside the home at the time, and an adult female was grazed by a bullet.

“The woman was treated at a local hospital and released.”

“The investigation has revealed the incident was not random.”

MS-13 originated in Los Angeles, California, and its members have ties to people trafficking, contract killings and drug smuggling.

Last month, two MS-13 thugs were jailed for the brutal murder of a 15-year-old girl in an alleged “satanic ritual”.

Diego Hernandez-Rivera, 22, who goes by the name of "Scary", and Miguel Alvarez-Flores, 26, known as "Diabolico", both laughed and waved at cameras when their trial in Texas first started.

Prosecutors said their young victim, Genesis Cornejo, had angered the pair of twisted killers by insulting a shrine to Satan – which they are believed to have worshipped,ABC reported.

Hernandez-Rivera then made a peace offering to the figure in the form of a cigarette.

But he returned and “told the entire group the beast did not want a material offering – it wanted a soul,” according to state District Judge Maria Jackson.

Genesis’s body was later discovered on a road in Houston with close range gunshot wounds to the head and chest.
