Porsche billionaire wants to divorce wife, 74, because she has dementia

A billionaire who made his fortune through Porsche has filed for divorce from his wife due to her "dementia-like illness".

Wolfgang Porsche has said the illness has led to changes in Claudia Porsche's personality, and is citing it as a reason to leave his marriage.

The 79-year-old Porsche executive has been married to his younger, 74-year-old wife since 2009, with four carers working around the clock over the last two years to look after Claudia.

The 74-year-old, who lives near to her daughter, is said to have been unable to move independently for months and her mental awareness is in rapid decline.

Media reports from German outlets are claiming Wolfgang is cosying up to Gabriela Prinzessin zu Leiningen, 59, a closer friend of 25 years.

The Porsche shareholder and chairman of the Supervisory Board of Porsche Automobil Holding SE is the youngest son of Ferdinand "Ferry" Porsche and Dorothea Reitz.

Wolfgang, who has four children and lives in Zell am See, Austria, is hoping to divorce his wife and has cited the impossibilities of her condition as a reason for doing so.

The 79-year-old was previously married to Susanne Bresser, from 1988 to 2008, in which time they had two children.

The Porsche family, who have an estimated family assets value of £18 billion, could be set for a fracturing, with Wolfgang set to divorce his wife of over 10 years.

Sources close to the family confirmed the divorce was going ahead, with Wolfgang saying that the medical condition makes it impossible to live with his wife.

Claudia, a mother and grandmother, has received nursing care for the last two years while Wolfgang has cosied up to close pal Leiningen.

German media reported that the relationship had the "seed of affection and deep connection" and had grown over "a few months".
