A pregnant mum got more than she bargained for when she ordered a portion of chips from her local takeaway – and apparently received a side order of ballpoint.

Tamsyn Alishia Beale, who is six months pregnant was looking forward to tucking into her fried treat but discovered a surprise when she opened up the bag.

Among the chips scattered on top of the greaseproof paper, the 30-year-old claims there was also a pen jutting out.

Tamsyn had ordered the meal after getting a craving, from fish and chip shop Troys in Kettering, Northamptonshire, via the food delivery app JustEat. She admitted that the food was "really nice", despite her shock discovery.

She said: "I ordered takeaway as I’m six months pregnant, so I was craving chips.

"I found Troy’s on JustEat and ordered from there. It came, I opened the chip-bag and the pen was literally just sitting there.

"The food was actually really nice!"

Tamsyn said she tried to get in touch with Troy's but was unable to get through to anyone, although the order was later refunded.

She added: "I did message JustEat and they said they would investigate and respond. To date, I haven’t had anything back from them."

Posting a picture of the pen among her chips on social media, Tamsyn told other local residents about what had happened.

She said: "Erm ordered a takeaway from Troy’s fish and chips and there was a pen in the chips……. Not sure what to make of this."

In reply, one user said: "They are asking for feedback on yer chips. Pen and paper provided. Not sure where the issue is???"

Another social media user joked: "Maybe for that authentic flavour they used an old-fashioned frying pen?"

Finally, one person added: "They could have battered it!!!"

Just Eat confirmed they were now investigating the matter.

A spokesperson said: "At Just Eat, we want all of our customers to have a positive experience when ordering their food online and were sorry to hear about this incident.

"We are looking into this with the restaurant partner involved and have also been in contact with the customer to issue a full refund."

Troy’s Traditional Fish & Chips made no comment.
