Princess Beatrice handed huge role supporting King Charles after Queens death

Princess Beatrice has been given a new role following the death of her grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II, meaning she can now carry out official royal duties on behalf of the new king.

Her Majesty the Queen passed away at Balmoral Castle yesterday (September 8) following a short illness, sparking worldwide grief.

And her death means that there has been a royal re-shuffle, with her son Prince Charles becoming king.

It also means that the eldest daughter of Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson is now a Counsellor Of State.

This means that Beatrice is now authorised to carry out most of the official duties of the sovereign, on behalf of King Charles.

Before the passing of the Queen, the position of Counsellor Of State was held by Princes Charles, William, Harry and Andrew.

The four men could perform the monarch's duties temporarily if she was unable to due to illness, or if she was abroad and would not return in time.

This position is held by the top four people in line of succession over the age of 21, and with Charles now becoming King, Beatrice is fourth on the list.

Queen Consort Camilla can also act on the monarch’s behalf in his absence, however she is not considered a Counsellor Of State.

In this new role Beatrice will be authorised to attend Privy Council meetings, signing routine documents and receiving the credentials of new ambassadors to the UK.

However, she will not be delegated Commonwealth matters, or be able to create peers, appoint Prime Ministers or dissolve Parliament, unless these are done under the express instruction of the King.

Beatrice, 34, married husband Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi in 2020, and the pair welcomed their first child Sienna Mapelli Mozzi in September 2021.

Beatrice has moved to ninth in the line of succession, with daughter Sienna moving to number 10.
