A strange Russian advert has encouraged the average working men of the country to put their lives on the line in Vladimir Putin’s war in Ukraine.
The high-budget ad has been doing the rounds on social media today (April 20) and shows regular Joes in their day jobs.
The ad comes amid a renewed recruitment push from Putin and his cronies in a bid to turn the tide of the war ahead of a widely-anticipated Ukrainian counter-offensive.

In a bountifully-stocked supermarket, a stern soldier with state-of-the-art equipment and a light machine gun stands guard.
As someone walks across the foreground, the soldier becomes a security guard, the clumsy attempt to contrast what the man is to what he could be.
“Do you really dream of being this kind of defender?” one screen text asks.
From here the tone is set, with people in normal jobs contrasted to the seemingly desirable life as a soldier, a defender of the motherland.

Next up, the gymgoer gets it as a soldier becomes a muscle-clad vest wearer spotting for his friends using tiny weights on the bench press.
“Is this where your strength really lies?” the viewer is asked.
A taxi is driven by a soldier in tactical gear before becoming a bored-looking cabbie and the question “do you really want to choose this path?” asked.
Our security guard, gym lad and cabbie then stare defiantly into the camera one by one and all three become soldiers again, appearing out of a cloud of dry ice replicating the fog of war.
In front of these acted-heroes the words “You’re a man! Be one!” glare.
They are followed by an admin sheet saying “Serve under contract! Monthly payments from 204,000 roubles” (£2,010).
