The Queen has reigned over Britain for 69 years and is the longest serving monarch in our history.

According to reports, she shows no signs of stepping down any time soon, however she is currently resting for two weeks following a health scare.

The Queen has been told to "take it easy", but she will hopefully bounce back soon.

Queen Elizabeth II is said to be holding out on abdicating and handing the throne over to Prince Charles for a very specific reason, Birmingham Mail reports.

There has been widespread speculation that Her Majesty might be preparing to take a step back from her royal role.

In fact, that is reportedly the reason why the monarch wasn’t featured in Prince Charles’ official 70th birthday photographs, supposedly taking a back seat for him to lead the family.

Claims in the US last year suggested that Prince Charles is ready to take over – and is itching to get started.

But, according to insiders, The Queen is reluctant to set away from her duties – because of great-granddaughter.

A source told the Daily Mail in 2019: “I don’t think she’s going anywhere, anytime soon.

“I think the Queen sees what those boys and their wives bring… Princess Charlotte, already at the age of 3, knows how to work a crowd.

"Maybe now through her grandchildren she can see a way of just staying on the crest of that wave."

The line of succession currently finds The Prince of Wales at the top, next in line to take over should the Queen decide to retire.

Prince Charles is followed by his eldest son, Prince William, The Duke of Cambridge, with Prince George of Cambridge, Princess Charlotte of Cambridge and Prince Louis of Cambridge, his three children with Kate Middleton, next.

According to US weekly, Charles is keen to get started with being king.

The 72-year-old Prince has plans to slim down the monarchy, and reduce the number of full-time working royals.

A source said: “Charles will serve as king with Duchess Camilla by his side.

“This is something he’s dreamed about his entire life — he sees it as his birthright, and Her Majesty would find it extremely difficult to deprive him of that.”

Royal biographer Robert Jobson previously stated he expected the Queen to abdicate next year.

He told The Royal Beat this year: “I still firmly believe when the Queen becomes 95, that she will step down.”

However, this has not happened and next year the Queen will celebrate her Platinum Jubilee.
