A twelve-year-old girl has been praised after she managed to fight off a burglar who intruded her home all by herself.

Nyletta Linoln, from Woodland in California has been dubbed the "real life Home Alone", with many comparing her heroic efforts to those of Kevin McCallister in the classic films.

On Friday, December 12, at around noon, the schoolgirl heard a noise similar to pounding in her home, but wasn't sure what it was at first.

Nyletta told FOX40: "I heard like pounding. I thought it was knocking because I had my headphones in."

"When I took my headphones off, I realised that somebody was actually trying to come into the house.”

A complete stranger was trying to bust open her front door and brave Nyletta decided she would do something about it.

“I grabbed my baseball bat and I walked into my living room and saw the lock was busted and he was trying to get in,” she said. “He said ‘Let me in.’ And I yelled ‘No!’ And I kicked the door into his face."

Nyletta's dad, Paul Lincoln, said: "The chain just let go as soon as they were pulling up.

"And they [the police] were able to get here on time.
