Reckless driver snapped heading to beach with kayak sticking out of doors

A motorist was snapped driving to the beach with a kayak sticking out of both car doors.

He and a passenger were heading down a busy A-road with the rear doors open en route to Whitley Bay in Tyne and Wear on Sunday, April 25.

Officers pulled over the Seat Ibiza and spoke to the two men, who are set to be interviewed under caution.

A shocking photo of the kayak sticking out left Brits gobsmacked, with commentators branding the pair “morons”.

A Northumbria Police spokesperson said: "We would like to reiterate that this type of behaviour is incredibly dangerous and we are committed to taking action against anyone who endangers the lives of other road users."

Social media users were stunned by their reckless behaviour.

Colin Johnson joked: "Canoe believe my eyes."

While Danny Patterson said: "Would definitely be up the creek without a paddle with his insurance if the police pulled him."

Garrin French laughed: "I assume it's the drag caused by the open doors that people are concerned about right?

"It's gonna slow him down."

  • Melania Trump 'no longer a presence' and 'rarely interacts with staff'

Other people on social media took the matter more seriously.

Sean Duffy fumed: "How the hell could ANYONE think that's ok?

"Ban them for life, they're obviously morons, a risk to themselves and everyone else."

While Steven French said: "Some people need their licence taken or at least send it back to Kellogs because (sic) they must have got it off the back of a box of Coco Pops."

Shocked roads policing officer Darren Lant tweeted: "I was on when I heard the job come in.

  • Prince Harry 'went into great detail' about royal 'restrictions' with Meghan

"Beggars belief at what some people think is acceptable."

One motorist tried to treat the roundabout like a crossroads by simply turning left and then the confused drivers behind simply followed.

There were also multiple instances of drivers using the wrong lane.

In the caption, the user wrote: "They added a roundabout near my hometown in rural, eastern Kentucky.
