‘Self-serving’ Harry and Meghan ‘against what royals stand for’, expert claims

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have been branded "self-serving" and "contrary to everything the Royal family stands for" by royal biographer Hugo Vickers.

The 69-year-old broadcaster blasted the Duke and Duchess of Sussex for quitting as Royals for a lucrative life in the US last March in an extraordinary and acidic letter printed by the Times on Tuesday.

Harry and Meghan were last week accused of being rude to the Queen by responding "we can all live a life of service" after Buckingham Palace confirmed they would not be returning as senior royals.

Her Majesty is now set to address the nation in a Commonwealth Day broadcast hours before Harry and Meghan's tell-all TV interview with their friend Oprah Winfrey airs on March 7 in the US.

Mr Vickers wrote: "The Queen has many demands on her time and can call on her family for support. The most successful members of the royal family are those who quietly support her rather than attempt to compete with her.

"It is a considerable shame that the Sussexes were not prepared to work within this system. They could have achieved so much. They had the whole of the Commonwealth to work for and both appeared committed to this.

"Instead, they headed into a political and commercial arena, which is contrary to everything the royal family stands for.

"The Sussexes are self-serving: the working royal family the opposite. In the past year, the royal family has indeed boosted our morale in many ways, rather different from lying barefoot in the park in California."

The Royal Family has been told to "hide behind the sofa" as Harry and Meghan's bombshell interview is set to air after they were stripped of their Royal titles this week.

"Nothing will be off-limits" according to Oprah's pals, who say the 90-minute interview will look at loads of unanswered questions.

Harry, 36, and Meghan, 39, have reportedly used the interview to "get what they want to say off their chests," reports The Sun.

The pregnant Duchess of Sussex is expecting her second child after she had a miscarriage last year.

In the interview she will be talking about "stepping into life as a royal, marriage, motherhood, philanthropic work".

However, a source has warned Royals: "Time to hide behind the sofa at the palace.

"Oprah is skilled at getting people to talk about their feelings and bound to take them down a path they’ll almost certainly regret.

"There will be an element of reliving Megxit and airing their grievances. No one benefits from that, but Oprah will get it out of them whether they like it or not."

The explosive interview mirrors Princess Diana's BBC Panorama appearance with Martin Bashir.
