Thug batters shopkeeper with a brick after trying to buy booze despite ban

This is the shocking moment a banned customer smashed a Spar shop manager round the head with a brick.

Dramatic CCTV shows Ricky Jones being confronted by thug Damien Gray, who is holding the heavy item in his hand.

Gray hits the brave shopkeeper in the head with the item before the pair wrestle on the ground.

The customer had been barred from the Spar shop in Lllangefni on Anglesey, Wales, prior to the incident on December 2, 2020, reports North Wales Live.

When he showed up again trying to buy alcohol, Mr Jones tried to escort him away from the premises.

Prosecutor Jemma Gordon told Caernarfon Crown Court: "As he was being escorted out, the defendant grabbed Mr Jones by the neck and grabbed hold of his scarf and called the manager ‘an alien’.”

Once Gray had left, Mr Jones rang the police but the customer then returned to the store with a brick and was “muttering to himself”.

The prosecutor said the shop manager was let with scratches and cuts on his head.

He went to hospital to be checked for a possible concussion and suffered from a headache and sensitivity to light the following day.

Gray pleaded guilty to common assault and possessing an offensive weapon in a public place.

The judge Her Honor Nicola Jones jailed him for 10 months for possessing the offensive weapon and two months for common assault to run concurrently.

She also imposed a two-year restraining order banning the defendant from entering the Spar in Llangefni or contacting Ricky Jones directly or indirectly.

North Wales Police called it an "appallingly violent attack" and welcomed the sentence.
