Twenty-two people were injured in a 16-vehicle traffic crash in Fort Collins on Wednesday afternoon, police said.
The massive crash happened at about 4:15 p.m. at Harmony and Timberline roads, according to a news release.
The driver of a motorhome pulling an SUV east on Harmony, approaching traffic stopped for a red light, failed to stop and collided with multiple vehicles. In all, 16 vehicles were involved in the collision.
Responders with the Poudre Fire Authority had to extricate several drivers and passengers from the wreckage and 22 people were treated for injuries. Five people were taken to area hospital with injuries, with two suffering serious injuries.
The usually busy intersection was closed to traffic for about 12 hours as the wreckage was cleared and traffic investigators processed the scene.
Investigators are working to understand what caused the crash, the release said, and determine if the driver of the motorhome suffered a medical event.
