Robert Trump passed away at the age of 71 on Saturday. The cause of death is unclear. In a statement, Donald Trump said: “It is with heavy heart I share that my wonderful brother, Robert, peacefully passed away tonight.
“He was not just my brother, he was my best friend. He will be greatly missed, but we will meet again.
“His memory will live on in my heart forever. Robert, I love you. Rest in peace.”
Yesterday, Mr Biden sent his condolences to the president in a Tweet.
Mr Biden said: “Mr President, Jill and I are sad to learn of your younger brother Robert’s passing.
“I know the tremendous pain of losing a loved one – and I know how important family is in moments like these. I hope you know that our prayers are with you all.”
Mr Biden lost his 46-year-old son Beau to brain cancer in 2015.
In 1972, the former vice president also lost his first wife Neilia and 13-month-old daughter Naomi in a car accident.
The death of Robert Trump came just a day after White House spokesman Judd Deere announced the president was going to visit him in a New York hospital.

Deere said president Trump “has a very good relationship with his brother who is very special to him.”
Ivanka Trump, daughter of Donald Trump, said in a tweet: “Uncle Robert, we love you. You are in our hearts and prayers, always.”
During Donald Trump’s presidential run in 2016, the late Robert Trump told reporters he supported his brother’s White House bid “one thousand percent.”
Donald Trump was born around two years before his brother Robert.

The president’s younger brother was born in New York on August 26 1948.
Like the president, he had a career in the Trump family’s real estate firm.
However, Former Trump Organisation executive Jack O’Donnell told the Times the younger Trump was not like his brother.
He described Robert Trump as “quiet” and “comfortable being Donald Trump’s brother and not being like him.”
This month will see two key stages in the run-up to the US presidential election in November this year.
Monday this week marks the start of the Democratic National Convention, which will run until Thursday 20. It will be held in the Wisconsin city of Milwaukee.
The Republican National Convention is due to be held the following week, August 24 – 27, in Charlotte, North Carolina.
The purpose of the conventions is to officially nominate the next presidential candidate for that particular party.
Although Mr Biden is the presumptive Democratic candidate, this is not official until the convention declares it.
Other activities include party members unveiling policy priorities and holding meetings.
