President Trump was speaking at a rally in Pennsylvania as the 2020 US election approaches. The President, who has come under fire from critics for his handling of pandemic, also claimed the US has the most cases of coronavirus because they have the best testing system in the world.
President Trump said: “That is all they ever talk about, the fake news.
“Covid, Covid, that is all they talk about.
“What progress we have made on it too, we understand.
“We know we have to protect our seniors especially when they have heart or diabetes problems.
“We are protecting them, we have the best testing in the world.”
“That is why we have so many cases because we do more testing than anybody else.”
The US President then referenced his own recovery from Covid-19: “We are doing great and excuse me but here I am.”
The crowd let out a huge cheer in response to Mr Trump’s comments.
President Trump’s claim the US has more cases because they have been testing more has been disputed by some scientists and medical experts including former director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Dr Tom Frieden who served under president Barack Obama.
Dr Frieden said: “The proportion of tests that are positive has increased, and this correlates with increased actual spread of infection.
“The most reliable information is positivity, and this increased in all regions of the country.”
Meanwhile, Aubree Gordon, associate professor of epidemiology at the University of Michigan, argued if the increase in Covid -19 cases “were due to a very high level of testing, we would expect to see the percentage of tests that are positive be very low, certainly less than three percent.”
She added: “However that is not what we are seeing.”

Earlier today, a virologist analysed Donald Trump’s speedy recovery from coronavirus.
The US President was diagnosed with coronavirus earlier this month.
During an interview with talkRADIO, Dr Simon Clarke discussed the steps that were taken to ensure a speedy recovery for Mr Trump.
Dr Clarke said: “He was clearly not well but how unwell was he?
“If he had been Donald Trump the property magnate living in his property in New York, my suspicion is that he would probably have been left at home to recover and get over it.
“I don’t know that it is just my suspicion.
“Of course, he is not, he is President of the United States and they would have whisked him off to a military hospital and jumped on it as firmly as they possibly could.
“I think that is probably why they acted pre-emptively where hospitals generally don’t have the capacity to do that, most people do not need it anyway.”
