UK sending Apache helicopters with deadly missiles to Ukraine in game changer

The British Government is sending a new support package to Ukraine arming them with Apache helicopters possessing deadly missiles to aid them in their fight against Russia.

The war in the Eastern European country has been raging on for almost a year but this latest development has been described as a "game changer".

Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has confirmed the package will also include tanks after a plea from Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky, who also requested aircraft to help defend against the invasion.

According to the Sunday People, four Apache choppers will be delivered to Ukrainian forces, along with 10 Challenger 2 battle tanks, as revealed by a 'senior defence source'.

“The Apache will be a major game-changer," the source said.

"The tanks will arrive first and it will take a while before helicopters can be deployed. Other Nato members will now follow suit.

"Russia has thousands of tanks, so it will take more than four Apaches to have a strategic impact. But tactically, it is a major step.”

One key feature of the state-of-the-art Apache AH64 E is its deadly missile controls, which can detect more than 250 targets at a time from over 10 miles away and has the ability to wipe out multiple targets in just seconds – while four of them could deplete a whole fleet of around 70 enemy tanks in rapid time.

Each chopper boasts the same engine as a Rolls Royce and is able to hit speeds over 180mph, whilst also coming armed with 16 anti-tank Hellfire missiles, 76 Hydra 70mm rockets and a 30mm chain gun.

The package will set the UK back a pretty penny though, with each Apache worth a cool £70million – while the British Army have also been equipped with the same model.

Ukrainian pilots are set to undergo training to fly the helicopters in the UK and the choppers will be based in a neighbouring country outside of the Ukraine when not in use.
