Ukrainian soldiers ready to kill Russians with bare hands as WW3 fears mount

As Ukraine prepares for a Russian invasion, one of their military's top figures have said the country's soldiers are "ready to tear apart Russians with their bare hands.”

The fighting talk comes as 100,000 of Vladimir Putin's troops line the border with Ukraine.

Speaking from a military base in Popasna, Lieutenant-General Oleksandr Pavliuk told the Times: “We have about half a million people who went through a war in this country in which they have either lost someone or something.

"Half a million who have lost the blood of a relative, lost their homes or lost their friends, and they are ready to tear apart Russians with their bare hands.”

He added: “If our intelligence manages to predict the direction of the main Russian hit, after the first big losses they won’t go further.

“Putin realises that after heavy casualties his army may stop by itself. You cannot trust intuition in this. It is about cold calculation.”

Meanwhile, a "Russian offensive to encircle Ukraine’s capital city of Kiev now looks like a realistic possibility," according to the Wall Street Journal.

"We are in the midst of Europe’s most dangerous moment in decades. Bomb-shelter signs are again going up in Kyiv. Civilians are banding together to defend their hometowns," the title's reporter in Kiev claimed.

A US Government website released a fact sheet on 'Russian Disinformation on Ukraine,' stating that Moscow instigated the current crisis by placing more than 100,000 troops on the border of Ukraine.

The document stated that there was no similar military activity on the Ukrainian side of the border.

The United States and Great Britain are providing military aid to Ukraine, and anti-tank weapons also arrived at Kiev airport on Thursday. The Russian Foreign Ministry called this a "provocation".

A top-secret SAS team has also reportedly been placed on standby to evacuate high ranking UK officials in Ukraine should Russian forces begin a full-scale invasion of the country.

US President Joe Biden has already warned he believes an attack is “imminent” and bungled by hinting an American response depends on the severity of an incursion.

Moscow's Ministry of Defence announced on Thursday that Russian forces intend to hold naval drills in the Atlantic, Arctic, Mediterranean and the Pacific this month, catching the attention of the US and UK.

Deputy Russian Defence Minister Alexander Fomin claims the purpose of the drills is to protect national interests in the oceans and to "protect the interests" of Russia and its ally Belarus.
