Worlds dirtiest man dies months after taking his first bath in decades

A man so dirty that passersby often mistake him for a rock has died aged 94, just months after taking his first bath in over 50 years.

Amou Haji, from Iran, was nicknamed the "dirtiest man in the world" for actively avoiding a sanitary way of life.

The bachelor who lived in a concrete hut died on Sunday in the village of Dejgah in the southern province of Fars, IRNA news agency reported.

The peculiar bloke didn't wash over fears of "getting sick", the agency quoted local officials as saying.

But "for the first time a few months ago, villagers had taken him to a bathroom to wash," IRNA reported.

Reports stated that the old age pensioner subsisted on a diet mainly of roadkill, causing him to have a stomach parasite.

Miraculously, the man was otherwise very healthy before his death according to doctors.

All That is Interesting reported that Haji became upset when villagers try to bring him home-cooked meals and clean water, instead preffering to drink puddle water from a rusted tin.

And the publication stated that the hermit also enjoyed smoking animal feces from his pipe, or five cigarettes at a time.

His favourite sleeping spot was a hole in the ground, despite having a stone hut built for him by villagers, reports stated.

Despite his clothes being thick with dirt, Haji would burn his beard to his desired length over an open flame – as well as checking his reflection in car mirrors.

He reportedly said people turn up occasionally to taunt him and even throw stones at him, but his own villagers generally respect his privacy.

Associate professor of parasitology, Dr Gholamreza Molavi, who carried out tests on Haji for the School of Public Health in Tehran suspects Haji has managed to remain so healthy due to developing an enormously strong immune system because of his lifestyle.
