YouTube has reportedly crashed for thousands of users around the world.

But it is not known what the source of the outage is.

The independent outage monitor DownDetector indicates the issue is global, MailOnline reports.

It said issues were reported on Monday afternoon.

According to reports, issues on YouTube included being able to play videos, load the homepage and log in.

Thousands reported problems with using the video streaming service.

Social media users took to Twitter to confirm the streaming giant had gone down.

One wrote: "Is youtube down or am i the only one with issues?"

Another said: "Literally thought it was my wifi again."
